Moisturizers & Creams
Skincare FAQs: Moisturizers and Creams
You've cleansed and toned your skin. So what's the next step for healthy, glowing skin? Let's stick to the classic skincare routine – next step, moisturizer!
You've probably wondered what makes your skin so rough and dry. There are many reasons, such as environmental factors or medical conditions, but it's probably because your skin doesn't have enough moisture to keep it hydrated. In addition, moisturizers also act as a shield, creating a barrier between your skin and the outside world, such as cold or dry air.
Some people say that moisturizers are bad for your skin, but that is only the case if and when too much moisturizer is used. Too much moisturizer and the unnecessarily thick barrier will slowly reduce your skin’s natural ability to exfoliate and would make chemical exfoliation necessary. If you can’t exfoliate, your abilities won’t be able to regenerate! The best way to deal with such problems is to use only the right amount of moisturizer and exfoliate once a week to remove unnecessary dead skin cells.
So when should you use moisturizer? We recommend using moisturizer once a day and once a night, especially after a hot bath or shower. Yes, hot water can be relaxing, but it also strips moisture and oil from your skin. You should also use moisturizer after exfoliating or shaving, as the outer layer of your skin will be irritated and in a very raw state. Apply moisturizer to build a protective barrier while your skin can soothe and regenerate.
How do you apply moisturizer? Applying moisturizer is easier and simpler than applying toner. Put a dime-sized amount of moisturizer on your hand and gently massage it over your face. Simple, right?
Now you are probably wondering which product to use. There is never a right answer, but we can guide you and give you some recommendations. All products with chemical acids like AHA or BHA are effective in caring for your skin texture. However, if used during the day, you should use an SPF product with it! If you are looking for moisture and just that, try products with hyaluronic acid! For acne-prone or sensitive skin, products with cica or centella extract can be useful to soothe and relax. Do you need extra nourishment? We recommend nourishing creams like our propolis or snail cream. Finally, to build and strengthen the skin barrier, try products with ceramides.
